Getting Started Guide 161 The Desktop, an optional component that provides tools, icons and utili- ties to manage the system graphically When you install OpenLinux, you install an X server package that corresponds to the video hardware detected on your computer. That X server was configured automatically, although you can also use the XF86Setup program to review the setup. The KDE environment includes both a window manager and a Desktop, seamlessly integrated. You can install different window managers or Desktops on Linux, and even pur- chase commercial X server products to support exotic video hardware. The X servers used by OpenLinux are provided by the XFree86 Project, Inc. See www.xfree86.org for more information.
