The Desktop, an optional component that provides tools, icons and utili-
ties to manage the system graphically
When you install OpenLinux, you install an X server package that corresponds to
the video hardware detected on your computer. That X server was configured
automatically, although you can also use the XF86Setup program to review the
setup. The KDE environment includes both a window manager and a Desktop,
seamlessly integrated.
You can install different window managers or Desktops on Linux, and even pur-
chase commercial X server products to support exotic video hardware. The X
servers used by OpenLinux are provided by the XFree86 Project, Inc. See
